“I NEED SOME ME TIME!!!!” The Amazing Benefits of Holistic Rest

Focusing your intentions on others can be a dicey game, while allowing the energy of others to merge with your own for sake of a common goal or elevating experience can be essential to human development. How much is too much? and is that amount of energy different for each person?

It is common more often than not to be encouraged by others to become more social. People who are “Anti social” are often looked at as crazy or flawed in some way. I believe that description is a blanket term used to describe what seems to be the stirring question no-one wants to answer; What do I do when I’m alone?

See many fear being alone because it can stir up latent emotions and bring them to the surface while others absolutely need it as an essential part of their re-calibration process. So the question becomes when and how much time do I need for myself and how do I know when I need to take that time?
As, an empath when I need to take alone time it becomes apparent extremely quickly as I begin to become overly sensitive to other peoples emotions in a valitole and negative way. My body even begins to hold on to these emotions and they manifest as symptoms like headaches, pains, or even other more serious ailments. How do I know when the root of my illness is emotional? When I’ve taken all the proper physical precautions of diet, exercises, hydration, and rest and I am still in pain or uncomfortable this denotes an energetic issue.
That’s how I know its time for some “ME TIME.” Me time is how I re-calibrate my senses, much like a machine the body and mind often need time to power down and come into sleep or off mode if you will. What happens to a computer that is used often and never powered off? Even the best technology will still eventually falter if it doesn’t get rest. Your body and mind are the same. Even if you are getting enough sleep, that is not enough you need holistic rest. I briefly discussed this in my previous blog “7 surprising things I learned while on my 7 day liquid cleanse” link : (https://ataensicmedia.wordpress.com/…) I can not stress enough the importance of holistic rest, holistic is a term meaning that of which encompasses the whole self mind, body, spirit, and even soul and all of the various aspects in which these things manifest. More often than not our rest is 1 dimensional only comprising 1 aspect of self.
When we begin to recharge our whole selves we can then regenerate any correlating aspects that may have began to become damaged or are damaged in the process. The length of time that holistic rest must last will differ from person to person but ultimately it will all come down to creating a sense of peaceful awareness with-in.
Holistic rest may not be considered rest at all it may be activities that allow us to clear our mind, the rest simply being from our monotonous realities. Activities like running, swimming, hiking, yoga, and of course meditation can help us to clear our mind of cluttering thoughts, while elevating the necessary restorative hormones in our body to create an over all sense of release, peace, and balance. Even hobbies like writing, photography, and painting can have similar effects on the body and mind. With all this in mind it is extremely imperative that we not only take time to rest our bodies but to rest holistically, so that we can maintain an over all state of homeostasis; assisting us in creating happier, healthier, and less stressful lives.

So the next time your feeling out of sorts, ask yourself, “Have I taken the proper amount of rest time for myself? and when is the last time I did?” The answer may shock you but no worries employ the technique of holistic rest for at-least 20 mins 3-4x a week and watch your agitation dissipate into contentment. I hope this information empowers you to cultivate the most important relationship you could ever establish in life, the one with yourself. 7 Surprising Things I Learned During my 7 Day Liquid Cleanse


Over the past few years Ive  gone through a number of health issues that led to me striving to repair my body from the inside out. Through suggestion of my health coach I decided to embark on a 7 day liquid cleanse, including; green juices, herbal teas & infusions, as well as other herbal & natural liquid supplements. What I learned was surprising to say the least, it seemed like my body co-operated more than anticipated and I didn’t crave solid food until the very end of my fast. What I found to be my bigger challenges were emotional and mental well being. It’s very common to experience a plethora of emotions while your body cleanses, but this time more than any other I flowed with my emotions and allowed them to unveil to me hidden aspects of myself that contributed to my over all dis-eased state.

1.The Power of Positive Thinking:

Many understand positive thinking as a cliche concept. “Oh, if I think good thoughts good things will happen.” Even though the simple aspect of this concept is true there is a bit more to it that makes it solidified as a manifested reality. You must more than think positively, you must replace the negative program of thinking that is currently running in your mind, and become proactive about creating a positive thinking pattern that can help to affirm your well being, your health, your wealth, and happiness.

Throughout the process of cleansing not only do residual toxins in the body come to the surface but, residual toxic emotions, like fear, abandonment, rejection and hurt also surface; with your body in such a vulnerable state it can be harder to fend off the overwhelming emotions that come with that release. The key is to remain positive in the midst of it all, and don’t fight but embrace the “negative” emotions while asking what they may be trying to teach you and how you can let them go!

2. The Value of Rest:

Now most of us are so programmed toward doing, doing, doing, we must do for family, do for work, do for others, but during a cleanse your focus should be on doing for self. It’s not selfish it’s self-love, which is the root of all other forms of love. How can you continue to give when your cup is empty? You can’t so you must take the proper time to refill the cup. Rest doesn’t always mean sleep, although you should maintain  at least 8 hours of sleep per night. Rest can also  just be simply taking a break from your normal programming. Go outside into nature, rediscover your inner child and sense of wonder. Stop engaging in energy draining activities, talking about drama or gossip with people on the phone, social media, or through other forms of communication. Remove yourself as much as you can from people who may be draining you, and of course make sure you are getting as much rest as you need for your body to fully heal.

Cleansing in and of itself can take a lot of energy, so remember to treat your body with care and gentleness and to save your energy for things that will enrich your experience with restorative practices like yoga, meditation, qi gong, hydration, pampering baths, and learning about how to heal and maintain yourself holistically.

3. When to Focus Inward:


Stop looking outside of yourself for love, validation, and respect, This all starts with-in. Once you have cultivated that practice of self healing you will naturally attract those same characteristics from others. Focus on who you are emotionally and where those voids start. Do they come from past pain or lost? When did you first start to feel this way? If you are cleansing to help rectify a particular health concern, what emotions are contributing to your dis-ease and how can you begin to change that?

4. The Value of Help:


Now of course you will need to help yourself before others can truly assist you in your healing journey but learn to be grateful for all the help your receive, it may even come from places you least expect. Sometimes all we need to do is show the universe that we are willing to love ourselves before we can begin to reap the benefits of others love. Maybe it was there waiting all along but the effects of your negative thinking cycle had you blind to seeing the amazing help that was there for you the whole time, or maybe you had to cultivate a mind that could attract these things into your world. Whatever the cause remember that when it comes, be grateful!

5. The Power of Forgiveness:


Now this was a powerful emotional release for me. I’m a very self aware person who often takes emotional inventory and ponders what are the causes for my states of emotional well-being. Anytime is a great time to begin this process, but especially after going through extremely stressful situations like a hard break-up, bout of illness, watching another family member become ill or pass away. These are times that can test your ability to remain positive and can change the way that you look at the world, but it doesn’t have to be for the worst. These are what we call transition periods, when something old must fall away to reveal a new process, life, or change. Every old ending is just a new beginning. Although it may not feel that way at first, a time of cleansing allows us to understand this as truth. A key part of ushering in the new energy that can come in after a transition is to forgive the pain of letting a passing energy go, although it may have been stressful and often during these times extreme sadness and resentment can crop up from the past that you may not even know you had or had forgotten exist it. During this time it is best to forgive those involved in creating that pain including yourself and allow it to fall away. It won’t happen instantaneously but it will begin a new way of being that will set the stage for a positive change to come into full being in your life.

6. Setting Boundaries


Although openness can help you and others heal, so can setting boundaries. We all have limitations to what we can and can not deal with and these limitations change as time goes on. During a cleansing process it is important to be very honest with yourself and others about what your limitations are and why they are an important part of self-respect and self-healing.  You will find that those who truly love you are more than happy to oblige and those who can not may not be fully conducive to your healing process. In anycase you must be strong enough to set these boundaries and strong enough to follow through with them on your own.

7. Letting It Go


The most important and helpful thing I learned throughout this experience was to let thought processes, perceptions, and realities that no longer served me go, because I understand that we are in a state of great change in this universe I am open to knowing that the me I am right now and the me I am meant to become may not hold the same ideals and ways of thinking. Like everything in the universe I must too change and that this change doesn’t have to be a struggle or traumatizing, but this change can be beautiful if I allow it to be. Everything may not turn out the way you envisioned but if you embrace change knowing that it doesn’t dismiss the truth of your inner being, you can understand what it truly means to be free. Sustain, transform, and evolve and through it all never be afraid to let, what is no longer meant for you, go.

Come to the Green Side! Meditate with Your Plants!


What’s green, adds to the air quality in your home, and a spiritual vibe on another level? Is it money? Is it spirulina? No silly, it’s houseplants! When you add houseplants to your home, you’re making a commitment to love and nurture the living green things. And that’s exactly what I’ve done. My goal is to fill my house will all manner of greenery because it makes me feel alive and raises the vibration in my home. I also want to have such an intimate connection with my plants that I can feel their spirits.

While taking care of my plants, I realized how well they responded when I talked to them, played certain music in my home, or even when I simply sat in their presence. The connection was undeniable because I felt amazing and I watched the plants’ enhanced growth as a result of our connection. One day, I decided it would be a good idea to do a plant spirit meditation so I charged my hands with Reiki energy, laid them gently on two plants and started breathing deep and chanting the primordial sound of the earth, Aum AKA Om. Since plants emerge from the earth, this sound is familiar to them and while I’m sure they’re still connected even from my home, I believe I put them in a nostalgic state and reminded them of their true home. Over the next few days, I noticed a change in the growth pattern with those plants I meditated with. I started doing the same practice with the others and experienced the same results.

Over time, I began to hear the spirit of the plants. No, I’m not crazy just in tune with nature. Everything on this earth is coded with information. Some plant species have been here for quite some time and have information coded in their plant cells that can change the world if we’d take the time to simply listen. For instance, in my most recent plant spirit meditation practice, I was led to sing Minnie Riperton’s Loving You. As I belted out the lyrics and gently laid my Reiki charged hands on the plants, I felt an electrical surge that words cannot explain. A peaceful calm filled the room and the plants literally stretched closer to me. It was a beautiful experience.

Someone asked me to share some good houseplants to buy. I tend to buy for function more than looks so my focus is which plants are best at cleaning the air and bringing peace to my home. Here are a few suggestions, aloe vera, spider plant, rubber tree, snake plant, golden pothos, english ivy, jade, diffenbachia, peace lily, ficus tree, bamboo plant, or philodendron.

Nothing at all. But you will gain so much.

Silence Might Save Us

There’s so much noise in our lives; so much of it unnecessary. People simply talking to be talking — making noise but not saying anything.

It gives me a headache.

Especially online. I mean, you give people a voice via the Internet and they proceed to continue on like the world is waiting to hear everything they have to say.

We don’t.

Shut up.

Instead, it’s time to be quiet. I mean really quiet so that we can hear. Many times, the answers are already there, almost as if it were a common knowledge we could simply reach out and grab. The answers are shrouded by the interference of lies, cries, and deep-seated sighs. We are hurting and want to be heard, but we forget that it’s us we should be listening to.know-it-all-and-knowledge

The answers are there if we seek them.

I’m not saying I have them – I’m far from enlightened. I do realize they are there however, and regularly seek out that peace that will allow me to connect with them.

In darkened silence, floating on air I can stop the noise designed to confuse, drain and manipulate. I can control my access to deeper peace, knowledge and love.

We all can.

Then once we’ve accessed it, we can communicate it. The crazy thing is, we can communicate in ways greater than words. We’ve just forgotten how.

I mean …..  this message is just a serious of numbers designed to look like words…

Yet so many of us feel like we need to scream. We need people to know how we feel. We talk so much we are forgetting how to communicate in any other way. Our souls are growing mute.  We are forgetting how to love.

Instead we destroy. We tear down and claw at each others necks to survive. We murder to make ourselves feel better, instead of learning how to communicate with ourselves. We do nothing, because we are too lost to listen to solutions.


We are going nowhere because no one is listening, and everyone is talking.

I’d like to take a moment of silence for humanity.

I think we really need some help.

Got Melanin?

Got Melanin Time and time again, I hear people in the conscious community talking about melanin. Most of the conversations are on point about enhancing the quality and quantity of the melanin molecule. What I rarely hear is how to access it and use it for benefits that go far beyond good health. I also don’t hear folks talking about the cocktail of chemicals in our body that we have access to of which melanin is just on I’ve had the pleasure of sitting under the teachings of many scholars who specialize in this subject. I’d like to share what I’ve learned from them along with my personal experiences as a melaninated being who is learning to access the power of this amazing molecule AND much more.

What is melanin? According to the Google dictionary, “melanin is a dark brown to black pigment occurring in the hair, skin, and iris of the eye in people and animals. It is responsible for tanning of skin exposed to sunlight.” The more melanin you have present in your body, the darker your skin, the better your visual acuity in the natural and spiritual realm, and the better your body’s overall performance. Did you know that your body is the most amazing pharmacy ever? Did you know that you can learn to produce the chemicals you need in your own body at will? Let me drop some science about the pineal gland and the variety of natural chemicals it produces. The melanocytes in our pineal gland are responsible for secreting melanin molecules into our bodies. The pineal gland produces the melatonin which regulates our circadian rhythms and reproductive hormones. It also produces serotonin, a neurotransmitter that plays a key role in regulating our moods. When serotonin combines with the natural tryptamine released by our pineal gland (also known as the seat of the soul or the third eye), it creates DMT (dimethyltriptamine). DMT is released in high quantities at birth and death. It’s also the reason you dream and have imagination.

As you can see, the pineal gland produces a variety of chemicals.  While melanin is powerful on it’s own, it’s just one of the key ingredients to the equation. There’s more to the story and we can’t stop there. ALL of these natural chemicals released by our pineal gland are powerful for regulation of normal body functioning AND our connection to the spiritual realm. Rumor has it that the Skull and Bones secret society indulged in consuming live pineal glands just to get an increase of those fresh secretions. There’s a reason folks started eating animals that goes far beyond a food source. It’s the real reason why many people who grow spiritually pursue a vegan or vegetarian lifestyle. The truth is hidden in our pineal glands. I’ll let you research that topic outside of the mainstream and come to your own conclusion.

How can we enhance the quality and quantity of the melanin molecules present in our body? While I know that all of the chemicals released by the pineal gland are equally important, I know many of you would like to know more about enhancing your melanin so let’s focus here for a moment. Everyone has the capacity to increase their melanin stores (even most people who identify as Caucasian).The goal is to get the proper amount of and exposure to the sun, eat natural foods, enhance your ability to adapt to stress and change, and rid your body of toxins from cosmetics, household cleaning products, and the environment. When we don’t care for our minds, bodies, and souls, we inevitably end up in a diseased state.

Let’s talk about sunshine. Living here in America, most people of color have adopted the practice of staying out of the sun because they are afraid to get too dark. This is due to the stigma of the slavery mentality many of us still carry. We’ve been conditioned to think lighter skin is better skin. Truth is, we need to be outside in the sun at least two hours per day, as uncovered as possible between the hours of 10am – 2 pm. The goal is to get all the UVB (ultra violet b) from the sun you can. Yes, you’ve probably figured out that the sun is literally a source of nutrition we all need. It’s not just a beautiful ball in the sky that just gives us LIGHT. It literally gives us LIFE. The more melanin you have, the more your body is able to make vitamin D3. Sunbathing is key to this process. Before you can engage in this practice, we need to cleanse our bodies if parasites, mold, and fungus. The residue on our skin from years of eating bad and environmental toxins has caused our outer skin and inner body to be full of parasites, mold, and fungus which is the REAL reason people get skin cancer and sun poisoning. It also causes a coating to sit on our eyes which is the real reason most of us need glasses. Once that coating is removed, you can literally gaze at the sun. So sunbathing and sun gazing gives us life and one way is giving your body what it needs to make D3. Vitamin D3 increases your body’s ability to absorb other nutrients. Without the proper amount, you can eat the right food and take vitamins all day long but your body won’t be absorbing them. This is the real cause of malnutrition. We think those starving children in Africa and Indonesia they sell to us on TV are starved. We are starved and we eat each day. To get the maximum sun exposure and rid your body of cosmetic toxins, it’s imperative to not use commercial brands of sunscreen. All we need is natural oils and body butters like coconut oil and Shea butter.

What are some foods that stimulate melanin production? Raw almonds, peanuts, dried beans, raw sesame seeds, lima beans, raw pumpkin seeds. Cooper helps to produce melanin as well as skin elasticity. That’s why folks with high melanin stores have beautiful skin. Kale greens, shitake mushrooms, raw cashews, chickpeas, and avocados are great sources of cooper. The key is to ensure your are balancing your cooper and zinc intake not to create an imbalance. That’s where those raw pumpkin seeds I mentioned earlier come in handy. Cooked spinach, raw squash seeds, raw cacao, kidney beans, and portabella mushrooms are great sources of zinc, as well. The chaga mushroom is one of the highest sources of melanin known to humankind. This is why we see people hunting for chaga like never before. Raw foodists David Wolfe says, “While chaga is the king, Reishi is the queen.” Reishi has the next highest source of melanin known to man. You’ll also want to be sure you’re getting enough selenium. Brazil nuts, shitake and white button mushrooms, lima beans, pinto beans, raw chia seeds, raw ground flaxseeds, raw sesame seeds, raw sunflower seeds, brown rice, brocolli, cabbage, and cooked spinach are good choices.

Why is melanin NOT the only key to my spiritual growth? When you seek to heal and grow, sometimes the cookie cutter paths to clean eating and spirituality work to build discipline and focus. In the end, you’ll always be dissatisfied if you don’t learn to commune with the God in you. All the answers are within. The Akhashic records and all that. Melanin is merely ONE of your personal technologies you can use to enhance your ability to remember all you’ve forgotten from lifetime to lifetime. And once you start knowing, your doing will reflect that knowing. Your goal is to figure out how to access all the wonderful chemicals secreted by your overlooked pineal gland to create the experiences you want.

Our ancestors were able to keep their pineal glands in tip top shape because of their climate, pure water, pure food, and low stress lifestyle and as a result, they were able to go into deep meditation with and without the use of sacred plants and fungi, you know stuff we make illegal in this country like psilocibin cubenis mushrooms. DISCLAIMER: I am not promoting the use of illegal substances. I’m merely sharing some information you may want to research for yourself. Through the spiritual practice, plant, or fungi or their choice, our ancestors were able to release a natural chemical cocktail to could connect regions in the brain that aren’t normally connected. They could also communicate with entities in the spirit realm. We see people doing this in churches and we call them prophets. In reality, EVERYONE is a prophet. We just have to learn how to enhance our spiritual practices to activate those abilities.

As a result of our ancestors being able to do this, they were able to build pyramids that were energy centers and bring prosperity to their lands. We see and hear it in the spiritual realm and bring the knowledge and actions back to this realm. Most amazing creations and spiritual abilities you see today are a result of brain balancing work, access to an internal pharmacy through meditation or hallucinogenic substances, or some people are simply born remembering how to use their talents and gifts. We see glimpses of this in the great inventor and plant and fungi enthusiasts, George Washington Carver. His connection to the plant and fungi kingdom led to the creation over 300 new uses of the peanut product. And as a peanut butter lover, I thank him kindly for his services. He even gave his friend Henry Ford divine plant knowledge that allowed this entrepreneur to mass produce his cars. We better stop doubting our abilities and giving away what’s shared with us! People like Steve Jobs and Bill Gates saw the vision for their creations while having experiences with exogenus DMT. These substances are definitely a tool however, the key is to learn how to access that state of mind on your own, without depending on them. Establishing a consistent meditation practice is one of the first steps to get your body to release the chemicals you need to access the spiritual realm at will. There are other practices to develop your central and parasympathetic nervous system, as well. Once you learn to access this realm, you’ll be given the answer to every question you’ve ever pondered along with the elemental keys to get out of any situation that doesn’t serve you and into one that serves you better.

So what’s next? It’s totally up to you. I encourage you do your own research and stop following these folks who are getting rich off of your tithes, offerings, and donations while they use up all your energy and you sit in a house with shattered dreams and a broken heart. Learn the truth about who you really are, work your magic, and live life to the fullest. No matter what script you contracted for, IT CAN be rewritten. It’s all up to you! Got melanin? I sure do? How about you? Now what you gonna do? Love and light.

Should Have Just Listened to My Folks

If you follow natural news (or any news at all) you may have heard about the fake crap people have been selling in the health food aisles of your favorite superstore.

The labels say supplements but the ingredients are sometimes actually houseplants sprinkled with a little bit of herbs.

Am I surprised? No, it was bound to happen. For some reason we need to have things bottled and stacked on a Wal-Mart shelf before we believe it’s good for us. When did this happen?

Back when we started listening to our televisions rather than our parents…..

Being holistic is not a fad. It is not something that is sold on shelves. It is not something that you can subscribe to for a week, or get on sale next to a pair of low-cost house shoes.

Holistic living is a mindset, and when it truly is, you won’t fall victim to the schemers that are attempting to sell it to you.

Afrocentricity, and specifically African-American – centricity is a culture built on holistic living. We were the ones who, because we were unable to purchase ‘quick fix remedies’, relied on the ability of ourselves and our environments to survive. It is the reason why the descendants of American slaves were able to thrive and prosper in the years immediately following emancipation (taking political office, starting businesses and founding schools) without the financial fortitude or academic training to have access to the conventional medical procedures of the non-African-American society.

In other words, when the rest of America was treating common ailments with cocaine, heroin and morphine we were improving our immune system and working through it… because we had to.


Yet, this practice of ‘functional’ natural living did not seem to reduce our life expectancy.

So, what holistic practices have we lost over time?

Cod Liver Oil …. Just because . Yeah, my mom still grimaces at the thought of it, but she also doesn’t need cholesterol medication, has a functioning kidney and hardly ever has medical issues.

Sassafras Twigs kept my dad’s teeth clean up until he was introduced to a toothbrush (as an adult).. Fifty years later and many boxes of Baking soda later, still no cavities.

Spirituality that cleanses the mind of stress (now a common cause of disease and poor immune function). It doesn’t matter what you believe- try convincing anyone in my family that prayer won’t fix it, and you’ll have a problem. Perhaps there’s something to that?

Well, we’ll know it works once Wal-Mart start selling a sassafras root drink that is cod-liver based and slightly psychotropic.

Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Being holistic is as much a part of African-American culture as the lyrics of “We Shall Overcome” – it’s an experience that is engrained in our heritage.

I go by many names online, but lets keep it simple and call me Jenn =). As a model, you learn to be what the client wants you to be. As females, this skill becomes natural to us as we aim to please society. But that is not what I want my legacy to be- that is not what I want my children to remember me for. I’d also like to be who I actually am, without worrying about portraying the wishes of a client. Through each post, I plan to reveal more of myself with the hopes that it helps someone else do the same.
